About Valley Flyer (the real company)
Valley Flyer was the trading name of Cityline New Zealand Ltd, a subsidiary of NZ Bus, an Infratil company, until July 2018. It was part of the Stagecoach Group of companies, trading as Cityline Hutt Valley, and also operated services out of Papakura in Auckland before amalgamation with Stagecoach Auckland. Prior to this, the greater part of the operation was part of New Zealand Railways Road Services.
In 2018, when new Metlink Wellington bus contracts came into operation, NZ Bus lost all of its public transport contracts in the Hutt Valley, with the exception of the Eastbourne services. As part of this change, all buses in the region were branded as "Metlink" and so the Valley Flyer brand has ceased to exist.
About Valley Flyer (the virtual company)
Formed at the end of December 2019, Valley Flyer Virtual Bus Company, also known as Valley Flyer VBC or Valley Flyer Virtual is a project of our Chief Executive techladdie, a passionate bus spotter who has grown up with Cityline and then Valley Flyer serving his local area. The end of Valley Flyer, along with GO Wellington and the other brands that operated under NZ Bus was a bittersweet moment for bus spotters in the Wellington Region.
This virtual company is a way to not only pay tribute to our local Valley bus company, but to also ensure that its legacy continues.
We are excited to say that we are a 100% Employee owned co-operative! You name any employee, sure enough they're a shareholder!
Where do we operate?
Our first area of operation is in Berlin - Spandau, running on the routes 137 and N33 in Valley Flyer and BVG branded buses.
We have recently been appointed by the Devon County Council to be operator of a select number of routes in the Westcountry area between Stoneley and Paignton, as well as providing assistance when requested by NBC Devon for events and other occasions.
Our Fleet
Our fleet currently consists of RHD M.A.N. Buses for our Berlin - Spandau operations, ranging from smaller 39 seater buses, right up through to our Double Deckers!
Our Devon fleet is primarily made up of Volvo B7RLEs (With a few Re-Engined B7s for our keen spotters to keep an eye out for!), as well as Volvo B10RLEs. We are looking into bringing in a small amount of Double Deckers for peak time usage as well!
